6 Months

My Dear Lucas,

What a crazy month it has been! With Mommy and Daddy's vacation, your doctor's appointment, Mommy's trips to Oklahoma City and Tulsa, and getting you back in your schedule after a week at Mimi's, I'm over a week late getting your letter written!

You have had a big month! You are growing, changing, and starting to show that little personality:) Mommy and Daddy are loving every minute of it!

You went on your first boat ride, helped Daddy celebrate his first Father's Day, saw your first fireworks show, went under water at the pool, and spent a whole week without Mommy and Daddy while they went on vacation! You sailed through each event so smoothly! You adapt so well. I was nervous about the loud booms of the fireworks, but you just sat in awe. You were amazing and we are so proud of you!

You are growing so fast! You are 27 inches long, which puts you in the 85th percentile! This still amazes me. I hope this means you're getting some Kern height;) You are 17 lbs 2 oz, which puts you in the 45th percentile! Just perfect:) Not too fat, not too skinny! I do love your "big fat chunky legs"! When I grab them and shake them, you laugh and laugh:)

You still are on such a great schedule. We were worried this schedule would change when we were gone and it did, but not in the way we thought. You still went to sleep at 8:30p, ate at all the right times, but you started waking up earlier and earlier and not taking very many naps. They said you were getting a little fussy in the evenings because of this. We were very nervous when we got home and you went to bed at 8:30p and woke up at 6a the first two days:( Yikes! Still 10 hours, but we were used to 12 hours! We heard from cousin Becky to try putting you to bed an hour earlier. That, my man, did the trick:) You started going to bed at 7:30p and waking up at 7-7:30a! Back to our 12 hour schedule:) You also started eating the Level 2 "Sitter" foods. You have liked all of them so far! You also started eating "Mum Mums" for a snack and drinking diluted Apple Juice from a cup. It's so cute:) You're getting better and better at holding it and putting it in your mouth all by yourself while laying down!

As I mentioned earlier, you are in Level 2 "Sitter" foods now, because you're a Sitter! It's amazing:) You had been trying to, but the day of Mommy and Daddy's anniversary, you sat for about 5 minutes without falling and you have been a pro at it ever since! You don't even like to lay down anymore;) You can pull yourself to sitting if we're holding your hands and you never fall anymore! You have a few sitting toys now and you absolutely love figuring them out and pushing all the buttons! Mommy and Daddy have all the songs memorized:) You still don't roll from tummy to back and we think you might crawl before you do! You do things in your own time and we love how you surprise us! You keep us on our toes and we love it;)

We had a great time on our vacation, but we missed you so much! We felt like we weren't whole and we aren't without you:) You give us purpose, life and laughter all the time and we can't get enough!

We love you so much little man!

Love,
Mommy and Daddy

Mommy's Little Firecracker

I've heard so many bad stories about the 4th of July making infants cry and go crazy, and I was a little nervous when this holiday rolled around.

The first night I heard fireworks going off at 11p, I started to freak out. Lucas is a great sleeper, but I didn't want anything to jeopardize that. I slowly, quietly creeped into his room to check on him and I heard a boom go off that sounded like it was right outside his window...he just laid there. He didn't even stir! I thought, this might be okay. I might still have to worry about him actually watching a fireworks show, but at least I know they won't wake him up!

Well, Sunday night Nick tried a few. It wasn't quite dark yet and he was sleepy and about to go to bed, but we let Lucas see some. We just wanted to give him a taste. (Pardon my swimsuit cover, we'd been in the pool all day!)

He didn't have much emotion. He definitely noticed that they sparkled and that some of them made a little noise, but we couldn't tell if he liked them or not. Even with the show Daddy was putting on:)

However, when we went to the Pryor football field and watched them, he couldn't keep his eyes off! He normally goes to bed at 8p, but they didn't start until 9:30p, so we definitely took a risk letting him stay out there. (Come on, this only comes around once a year!) But it was so worth it! He loved it:)

He sat so still and even with the other kids crying around us, he didn't make a peep! Just stared...it was so cute and we were so proud:)

They were really pretty!! And to top it all off, we got to see Uncle Cal and Aunt Cassie:) He didn't get to sleep until 10p that night, but we had such a great time!

This definitely calmed my fears of the 4th and I'm happy to say, my son is a fan!!!
